It’s spring once more, and as always we let ourselves get carried away by the charms of this season. We know that within weeks we’ll complain about “unbearable temperatures”, but for the time being we feel renewed, inspired, and on the brink of new creations.
In every show window, in every street, we notice fresh displays. Some of them we did ourselves. Others are the work of our colleagues; some of them known, others unknown. We walk through those streets and keep turning our heads from one side to the other, observing windows in the hope of finding a display that is truly special, one to admire and remember... At the age of fourteen I started to work as a trainee in the sales department of “La Primavera”, a department store at the Plaza Universidad, a central square in the city of Barcelona. We’re talking about the year 1953.
From the first moment on I felt attracted to the work of Mr. Torres. This was a man who showed up every month, entered those enormous show windows, and with nothing more than a hammer, a hand full of needles and lots of imagination, was able to illustrate the potential that offered the material on sale. Using every possible combination of texture and color he turned those materials in different types of clothes. In those days there wasn’t something like “prêt à porter”, you know.
Soon, and by my own initiative, I turned into Mr. Torres’s assistant and pupil, that is, only during the time he spent in our shop. He noticed my disposition and my interest .. [read +]

Antonio Rubinos is one of those persons who invariable inspire you with a kind of peace and wellbeing that is hard to do without once you experienced it. When he comes and visit us, it looks as if the world has changed for the better.
That’s how Antonio is, laid back, his hat, as always, cocked slightly, no doubt the effect of his living in the isle of Ibiza. At the shores of the Mediterranean, living between pine, orange and carob groves, he finds his inspiration in nature. He receives great support from his family, especially from Tanit who continues his work and does so with equal pleasure and professionalism.
When, for 34 years, Antonio and Mari-Carmen settled in Ibiza, looking for a creative life, they might well not have imagined the amount of envy they inspire in us who stayed on Spain’s mainland... [read +]

Yes, I know Saint Valentine’s Day has passed. Many of us would like to celebrate this special day all year around. What a pity that can’t be. The repercussion of this festivity is so short that less and less shopkeepers decide to dedicate their show windows to it.
For example, looking around in Madrid and Barcelona I’ve found it pretty hard to locate any displays that were inspired on Saint Valentine’s. It seems that this theme lost its merits. Is it because we fall in love no matter what, or do we sell so much that we can do without the extra motivation of display design?... [read +]

Every time when someone we know goes someplace interesting, we ask her or him to create a reportage of local display design. We can’t always publish these reportages directly, sometimes for lack of space, sometimes because the theme doesn’t match. This report on window display in Zurich has been... [read +]

We like you to show you some photos from Escorpion, taken from our file.

Xmas 2010 show window
In this assembly Escorpion found its inspiration in a Xmas party. The designers used black velvet curtains, tied with gold colored ribbon. Brilliant decorations were hung from the ceiling. The hairpieces were specially designed for the occasion and to make them even more glamorous small adornments with tiger prints and feathers were added.

Spring 2011 show window
In this occasion the inspiration came from the countryside. Wicker baskets, flowers, sun-hats... [read +]
