Last July, The Brandery, a Barcelona fashion fair, announced a shop-window contest in which 160 shops participated. This contest wasn’t limited to the town of Barcelona but involved other cities like Sabadell, Granollers, Lleida, Madrid, Bilbao, as well as the isle of Mallorca, the isle of Ibiza and the mini-state of Andorra. The theme was “Windows on Summer Holidays”, inviting display designers to inspire themselves on the summer holidays. Six finalists were chosen through a public inquiry at social networks like Facebook and Flickr that had published photos of the participating shop windows. I got to know Andreas by chance. His shop, Concret, is located in the same neighborhood in Barcelona as Vitrina. Andreas´ work drew my attention and I invited him to participate in our last “in a window“ display-design event, “Murcia in a Window”. Since living in our country, Andreas has worked for various concerns like Vinçon, Zara or Favorita. His professional activities are focused at concepts as: display design, visual merchandising, styling, interior design, and display management. He works for an international clientele. Saturday and Sunday mornings are kind of special. No rushing, no appointments, nothing urgent. It permits one to spend time on one´s hobbies. Reading, for example. In my case this means, reading something else thanI have to read during the week, something to look forward to, something that make me wish it was weekend already. In 2009 I used the quiet mornings of my weekends reading a book about Gene Moore, Tiffany’s display designer, about whom I wrote in earlier issues. 2010 was spent with reading the biography of Van Day Treux, someone we discuss in a following issue.
